From Justin & Genille French
We are super excited to report that thanks to the generosity of the 100s of past donors, phase one of the Kawaaga Healthcare Centre is now complete and operational since July 1, 2023. With 6 full-time staff, phase one of the healthcare centre now offers the Kamuli district acute care 24/7... and when necessary inpatient care, and maternity care.
We will be returning to Uganda in 4 weeks (December 1-10, 2023) to continue our impact projects supporting; 1) The Kawaaga Healthcare Centre Phase Two, 2) H.O.P.E's Orphanage, and 3) Jigger Clinics + Shoes For Kids.
With $88,000 successfully raised to finish phase one of the healthcare centre, the basic structure of the maternity ward and inpatient ward is already constructed but we require an additional $57,000 to complete these two structures which will offer life changing and life saving care to the people of the Kamuli district.
The village elders have asked us to focus on the maternity ward first and foremost as it is the largest area of need with extremely high rates of maternal fetal complications and death in this part of the world.
During our trip we will be visiting and supporting an orphanage in Jinja which was introduced to us by H.O.P.E. (Helping Orphans Prosper through Education) an organization run by Marjorie Williams, Marie Woodford, Madlyn Carew and Betty Whalen from St John's NL. We will also be sponsoring 2 different outreach Jigger Clinics where we will be taking a team of nurses to surgically excise parasitic sand fleas from children's feet.
These jiggers develop because of poor living conditions and the inability for families to afford a pair of shoes. We excise the jiggers, give post-operative care packages as well as a new pair of shoes and likely some clothes to the children we treat. This can be life changing and eliminates a potentially permanent disabling disease.
An important feature of the APEX Impact Foundation is that Genille and I personally fund all administrative costs such that 100% of all donations received goes directly to those who need it most.
With only 4 weeks to reach our donation goal, anything you can do to support and positively impact one life at a time would be greatly appreciated. To donate to the APEX Impact Foundation please contact us directly or visit our donation page:
